places to go
The location of the site makes for great days out with easy access to the Southdowns Natioanl Park with numerous footpaths and bridals ways in stunning scenery no matter what time of year.
For very local walking, it's roughly 1hrs walk to get to The Fox at Bramdean via footpaths and bridal way. A little further and youll find the Thomas Lord in West Meon.
The village also offers great river walks along the Meon Valley River Trail and a little further on at Warnford, there is Old Winchester Hill which has some of the most fantastic views over the Southdowns with the George and Dragon pub at the bottom which has a lovely bear garden by the river.
New Alresford is the closest town with a couple of small supermarkets, local shops, pubs, cafe’s and restaurants. There is also The Watercress Steam Railway and many other attractions in the area.
A little further perhaps? head for popular spots like the Queen Elizabeth Country Park or Harting Down, and the beaches of Portsmouth, or Hayling island are all about 45 mins drive away.
There are plenty of options for different days out too: literary fans may like to drop in at Jane Austen’s House (15 minutes), while those with more of a scientific outlook explore the exhibits at Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium (15 minutes). National Trust estates at Hinton Ampner (15 minutes) and Uppark (half an hour) are worth visiting as well.
The exotic animals, activities and adventure playgrounds make Marwell Zoo (half an hour) a top pick for family outings, and there are plenty of interesting things to seek out in Winchester (20 minutes) too.
